Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal final version is releasing tomorrow. Majority of the users may require Wine installation in order to run Windows applications. So here I’m giving the tested PPA for Wine installation. The Wine development release 1.3.18 is now available and can be installed in Natty.

For those who are new to Wine, it is a compatibility layer that aims to allow computer programs written for Microsoft Windows to run on Unix-like operating systems. Wine is a free software application and is written using Black-box testing reverse-engineering, to avoid copyright issues.

To install Wine in Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal, open Terminal and run the following commands:

For the latest Wine 1.3.xx (Most recent versions but kind of unstable) –

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wine1.3

For Wine 1.2.xx (Stable versions) –

sudo apt-get install wine
