Following Ubuntu 11.04 codename ‘Natty Narwhal’, it’s successor Ubuntu 11.10 gets the codename Oneiric Ocelot. Mark Shuttleworth as tradition continues announced the name in his post “Next after Natty?“.
He continues to tell why he had coined Oneiric Ocelot:
…Oneiric means “dreamy”, and the combination with Ocelot reminds me of the way innovation happens: part daydream, part discipline.
With the release of Ubuntu 11.10, Unity 2D will also ship on the CD for people whose hardware can’t handle the 3D version along with Qt which Mark states would be ” giving developers even more options for how they can produce interfaces that are both functional and aesthetically delightful.“
Natty will provide a base for the upcoming Ubuntu projects with good interference and feel.
