Cairo-Dock is an animated application launch bar for the desktop, comparable to the dock in Mac OS X or Rocket Dock (for Windows). Now, you can use Cairo-Dock with OpenGL. The package include a bunch of plugins and can be configured to work with popular desktop effect managers like Compiz Fusion.

To install Cairo Dock, use the following command in terminal:
sudo -v

After installing Cairo, you can locate the application in Accessories and on launching it you can modify the different settings associated to it.
