Use the Windows Key to open the Start Menu in Ubuntu

Pressing the Win key and trying to open “start up menu” in Ubuntu is what most of the Ubuntu newbies would do. Though this doesn’t  work as in Windows. Many steps are been taken by manufactures and Ubuntu fans to introduce Ubuntu based keyboards.

Here is a simple tip fix this issue:

1. Open the the terminal and type:

gconftool-2 --set /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/panel_main_menu --type string "Super_L"

2. Now you can use Win key to open the Ubuntu menu but you have to press “Esc” to close the menu.
