Ubuntu 11.04 brings Network Manager with AppIndicator Support

The latest feature in Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal is the AppIndicator support for the Network Manager applet as mentioned in todays changelog here. This is a very important news since Ubuntu will soon remove the notification area, therefore the connection manager has to use an indicator applet.

The long term plan is to switch to Network Menu and connection manager (Connman) and indicator-network, but changes in unity and the desktop make it so that it’s really important to get a version of networkmanager-applet that still shows up on the desktop with unity, given that the new compiz-based Unity doesn’t currently implement the system tray
