Install Adobe Flash Player 11 Incubator in Ubuntu 11.04 / 10.10 / 10.04

You can now install Flash Player Incubator program version 11,0,0,60 in your Ubuntu. May be you have read that Flash Player Incubator comes with “Molehill” 3D GPU Accelerated APIs and Cubic Bezier Curves, the new dimensions in Flash media. Here is how to install Incubator in Ubuntu Natty / Maverick / Lucid.

What’s new in Flash Player 11

  • “Molehill” 3D GPU Accelerated APIs – A new set of low-level, GPU-accelerated 3D APIs that enable advanced 3D experiences across devices through the Adobe® Flash® Platform runtimes.
  • Cubic Bezier Curves – Using the cubicCurveTo drawing API, developers can easily create cubic beziers without custom ActionScript code required.

This version is still under development and you can expect more updates from the Flash Team in the coming days. To Install Adobe Flash Player 11 Incubator in Ubuntu 11.04 / 10.10 / 10.04, from the Terminal type:

wget http://download.macromedia.com/pub/labs/flashplatformruntimes/incubator/flashplayer_inc_debug_lin_022711.tar.gz
tar zxvf flashplayer_inc_debug_lin_022711.tar.gz
sudo cp libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/

  1. @ Jay – Indeed. The guide assumes you have Flash already installed. Head over to Flash.com and download from there. Then this guide will apply as you ‘upgrade’ Flash.

  2. This seems to have worked. Though it crashed a couple of times, in the beginning, and I got a message I don’t understand about Flash, but since then so far so good. The crashing has ceased and the Youtube videos are no longer pink, which is all I wanted.
