My screen used to crash after closing the Laptop lid in Ubuntu 11.04 when I had set it as blank screen. After troubleshooting with power manager and Compiz Settings Manger, I finally fixed it with a little help from the Ubuntuforms.
Here is how to Fix it:
- Install Compiz Settings Manager if haven’t installed it yet
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
2. Then go OpenGL plugin and Uncheck Sync to VBlank
Now my system doesn’t crash on closing the lid. Still got problems? Leave a comment below.

Hi Hamid!
Is your screensaver enabled while you closed your lid?
Fixed! Thanks a lot for that
I did that and it still crashes when I close lid (Ubuntu 11.04), VBlank is unchecked.
It has crashed twice since i’ve unchecked the Vblank.
Although it has crashed a lot less than before.
Yep – same here.. still locks up when closing the lid even though VBlank is unchecked.
Worked for me. Thanks!
