Easier, Faster and Richer – All New Twitter.com

Twitter unveiled a new home page design on September 14th, with an enhanced sidebar that displays images, video, and user profile information without leaving your news stream. The change is notable because Twitter.com is still the most popular way for people to use Twitter: fully 78 percent of all users access the service through the site. At launch, media content partners include YouTube, Vimeo, Ustream, TwitPic, Flickr and 11 other firms, but Twitter is actively looking to expand its media partners. This content will appear in a sidebar beside a relatively traditional newsfeed.

Twitter Official Blog says the new Twitter will roll out as a preview over the next several weeks.

Twitter API  aided in the growth of a massive number of third party applications. Today’s announcement will no doubt renew such discussion, with many of the best features of Twitter clients like Tweetie, Seesmic  Desktop, and TweetDeck  now becoming a part of the default Twitter interface.  Is twitter being transformed in to a social networking site like Facebook?

When you click a Tweet, the details pane shows additional information related to the author or subject. Depending on the Tweet’s content, you may see: @replies, other Tweets by that same user, a map of where a geotagged Tweet was sent from, and more.
